Travelling with infants during the holiday times
Travelling with an infant is not always all sunshine and smiles. Babies sometimes cry on aeroplanes, they need to have their nappy changed in strange places and they might not like having their routines disrupted if they are used to a regular eating and sleeping routine at home. But there are plenty of things that you can do to make travelling with an infant easier for yourself.
Here are some tips on travelling with infants during the holiday times:
Overpack your nappy bag, it may be more for you to carry around but being prepared for any delays while catching flights will go a long way. Pack in a few extra bottles, nappies, wet wipes, foods and formula, and some changes of clothes.
Pack all your baby’s things amongst all your checked luggage
If your luggage gets lost, you do not want it to be the one bag in which you packed all of your babies’ things into. But you can buy nappies and formula almost anywhere so you do not need to stress too much.
Bring clip on toys with you
Clip on toys keeps baby’s distracted and entertained while you are waiting around for your flight. Another idea is to download a movie on your phone for them to be able to watch something or a baby game on your phone. This will keep them busy.
Give your baby a bottle or dummy during take-off and landing
The pressure of landing and take-off can cause pressure for your little one’s ears. Give your baby a bottle or a dummy during these times. It will help your baby to keep swallowing, which help clears the ears.
Try book flights with as few connections as possible
If you do need to book with a layover, choose one with a longer waiting time so that you do not have to run and rush with the baby and all your goods to catch the connecting flight.
Keep your pram with you up until you board
Bring your baby pram and use it to hold everything. Airlines allow you to gate check your pram in, so you will have it up until you depart and immediately available to you on landing.
Let everyone off the plane first
While everyone else it getting off the flight use the time to gather all your belongings. Once everyone is off there will be more room to make it off the plane easily and quicker.
